Surfing in Gower
The Gower Peninsula was the UK's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and its south-facing coastline offers consistent surf in a stunning setting. Llangennith and Rhossili Bay form one of Wales' most famous surf beaches — a vast 3-mile stretch of sand backed by dramatic dunes.
The breaks
Llangennith is the main surf beach, working on SW–W swells with offshore N–NE winds. The beach produces fun, punchy peaks across the sand banks. Langland Bay on the south coast is a more sheltered reef/beach break that works on bigger S–SW swells, popular with locals and great for intermediates.
Best conditions
Autumn and winter bring the most consistent surf. Llangennith needs a decent SW swell to get going but can handle big conditions. Langland works best at mid to high tide on a clean S swell. Water temperatures range from 8°C in February to 17°C in August.
Access & facilities
Llangennith has a large car park and surf hire at Hillend campsite. Langland Bay has beachfront parking and a cafe. Swansea is the nearest city, around 20 minutes from both spots.
