Hazards & Safety

Strong rips on bigger swells near the harbour wall. Extremely cold water autumn through spring — 5/4mm wetsuit, boots, gloves, hood essential. Rocks and harbour infrastructure at east end.

Local Tips

Best at mid tide with a clean NE or E swell. Western end (Philorth) has better banks and fewer people. Southerly winds are offshore. Picks up more swell than spots further south on the Aberdeenshire coast.

Getting There

Multiple access points. Main access from Tiger Hill car park near the leisure centre. Western end via Philorth.

Parking: Free parking at Tiger Hill and along the seafront. Never a problem.

Facilities: Toilets and leisure centre near Tiger Hill. Town has cafes, chip shops, supermarkets. No dedicated surf shop.

Crowds

Very uncrowded. Small dedicated local crew. You will often have peaks to yourself.
