Tynemouth Longsands
Tynemouth Longsands is the north-east's most popular surf beach, a long stretch of sand between two headlands. Faces east into the North Sea and produces fun, workable waves when North Sea storm systems push swell onto the coast. Best at mid tide with a westerly wind. Home to several surf schools and a strong local scene. The adjacent King Edwards Bay offers more shelter in bigger swells.
Conditions look mixed today with moderate onshore wind and a dropping swell period through the afternoon. Best bet is the early morning push before the wind picks up. Tomorrow looks cleaner with a slight shift in direction.
