Machrihanish
Remote west-coast beach break on the Kintyre Peninsula. Picks up Atlantic swells and can produce excellent hollow waves. Worth the drive for uncrowded perfection.
Conditions look mixed today with moderate onshore wind and a dropping swell period through the afternoon. Best bet is the early morning push before the wind picks up. Tomorrow looks cleaner with a slight shift in direction.

Hazards & Safety
Strong rips on bigger days — fully exposed to Atlantic swell. Cold water year-round. Remote location with limited emergency services. MOD firing range to the south — check for red flags.
Local Tips
Works on all tides but mid is cleanest. Village end (south) has a defined peak near the rocks with the most hollow waves. Walk north for mellower peaks and guaranteed solitude. Easterly winds are offshore. When a clean W or NW swell hits with light E winds, world-class waves.
Getting There
Park at Machrihanish village and walk via the golf club. Also accessible from the old airbase to the north. Allow 3+ hours from Glasgow.
Parking: Free parking at the village and near the golf club. Never an issue.
Facilities: Very limited at beach. Machrihanish has a pub and small shop. Campbeltown (5 miles) has supermarkets, fuel, cafes, and accommodation.
Crowds
Very uncrowded — remote location filters out all but the most dedicated. One of Scotland's emptiest quality breaks.
